SW485A RS-232 to RS-485 Converter

3onedata supply & documentsAvailability confirmed at RFQ

The 3onedata SW485A is a passive pocket converter for bidirectional communication between one RS-232 port and one RS-485 port. Its official datasheet lists DB9 female RS-232, a 4-pin 5.08 mm RS-485 terminal block, up to 1,200 m on RS-485, 600 W surge and 15 kV electrostatic protection, -40 to +80 °C operation, and serial-port power with no external supply. System fit is subject to engineering review.

Frequently asked

Does the SW485A need an external power supply?

No external supply is listed. The official datasheet says SW485A obtains power from the RS-232 TXD, RTS and DTR signal lines. The host port and signal behavior still need to be checked during engineering review.

What connectors does the SW485A use for RS-232 and RS-485?

The RS-232 side uses a female DB9 connector. The RS-485 side uses a 4-pin terminal block with 5.08 mm pitch for D+, D- and GND.

How far can the SW485A transmit over RS-485?

The official datasheet publishes 1,200 m for RS-485 and 15 m for RS-232. Actual reach depends on cable, grounding, topology, termination, baud rate and electrical noise, and remains subject to engineering review.

What we check

We check the ports, topology, protocol map, timing and management needs before selecting the SW485A.

Power is taken from the host RS-232 TXD, RTS and DTR signals, so the host serial-port electrical behavior must be reviewed

The published 15 m RS-232 and 1,200 m RS-485 distances are not guarantees for every cable, topology or noise environment

The standard published load is a 32-point RS-485 polling environment

the stated 128-point option is customized, not the base model

The official datasheet does not state galvanic isolation, so isolation must not be assumed
