The current screen hierarchy, operator terminology, alarm text, recipe definitions, tag list, and navigation logic can carry forward as a content and behavior specification. Existing panel drawings also help define viewing area, cutout, mounting, power, and environmental constraints. The TIA Portal or WinCC project remains valuable evidence, but its screens and Siemens driver configuration are not treated as a portable target project.
Re-engineering covers rebuilding screens in the target HMI environment, recreating tags, alarms, recipes, users, trends, and data logging, and selecting a driver that the retained controller actually supports. A Siemens S7 or PROFINET connection may need to move to Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, or another reviewed path. Panel cutout, connector location, storage behavior, and firmware-dependent features are checked on the selected hardware. Operator workflow and alarm acknowledgement should be reviewed with the machine owner before the new interface is released. The approved tag map and interface project should be archived with the machine documentation for service. Any proposed HMI is a candidate replacement — subject to engineering review.
